The Governors have responsibility for the overall effective management of George Abbot School and work in partnership with the GEP multi academy trust. Governors act within the framework of national legislation. They do not make day to day decisions on the running of the Academy as this is the responsibility of the Headteacher.

They meet regularly through the term to give strategic challenge and support. Their aim is to work in partnership with the Headteacher and Senior Leaders of the school to maintain and improve the standards at George Abbot School for every young person.

The Term of Office for any Governor is 4 years, although a Governor may choose to resign prior to the end of their term. The Governing Body appoint Community and Parent Governors, however an election is held for the positions of Staff Governors.

The Committee cycle runs termly, and includes three sub-committees:

  1. Curriculum & Outcomes
  2. Pay Committee (Autumn term only) – Chair for the Pay Committee rotates per meeting
  3. Finance & Resources
